The deadly crash took place in Dutchess County around 9:40 a.m. on Route 55 in the Dover hamlet of Wingdale.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2011 Mazda 3 sedan driven by Valerie G. Parsons, age 80, of Wingdale, was entering Route 55 from a private driveway when it was struck by a 2015 Kenworth truck traveling eastbound on Route 55, said Capt. John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.

As a result of the crash, Parsons suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Watterson said at this time the primary factor in the crash appears to be failure to yield the right of way on the part of the Mazda.

The investigation is still pending by members of the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner and the J.H. Ketcham Hose Company.
